Important Notes:

Please note that redsn0w 0.9.5 beta is only available for Mac OS X and works with iPhone 3G. In case you want to try iPhone OS 4 beta, download the appropriate firmware file from Apple, which will require UDID registration. There are many methods available to get iPhone OS 4 beta file, but its difficult to predict their success.

In case you have upgraded to iPhone OS 4 beta, you can still downgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 or iPhone 3.1.3 firmwares. However, your iPhones baseband will get updated to 05.13.03.

Guide to Jailbreak iPhone OS 4 Beta with Redsn0w 0.9.5

Requirements:

iPhone 3G

Mac OS X

iPhone OS 4 Beta

iTunes 9.1

Redsn0w 0.9.5  Download Link

Steps to follow:

1. Install iPhone OS 4 Beta (iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw) on your iPhone 3G.

2. Download Redns0w 0.9.5 tool to your desktop and run it.

3. Browse the iPhone OS 4 file and select it.

4. Now, install the Cydia tool.

5. Put your iPhone 3G in DFU mode with instructions displayed on the screen.

6. Wait for few minutes to complete the jailbreak process.

7. When the process gets completed, iPhone will restart automatically.

8. Since Cydia is not properly updated for iPhone OS 4, you will have to add following repo in blank sources.

REPO: http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7

9. Restart the iPhone to get regular Cydia app.

Well, thats it! You can now play with your jailbroken iPhone 3G.

iTunes 9.1 Released…DO NOT UPDATE YET!!

Apple today released iTunes 9.1. As always you are reminded to await confirmation that it is safe to download if you want to sync your jailbroken iDevice.

So far no official word has been given but we have unconfirmed reports that some users jailbroken devices have failed to sync with the latest update.

We will keep you updated on any further developments.

**UPDATE** Official reports state that iTunes 9.1 kills Blackra1n, so if you use it to jailbreak/unlock, avoid this update.

**UPDATE 2** we have had official confirmation that iTunes 9.1 is safe to use, EXCEPT if you use blackra1n to jailbreak, this version of iTunes unknowingly kills it.
